It's Official...

The room at the Park Hyatt has been reserved and the plane tickets have been bought- we're off to Tokyo for 9 days at the end of October! Not only will I be bringing an empty suitcase to fill with robots and toys when I get there but I will have to find a device that keeps my jaw from hitting the floor everytime we see something cool (which is going to be a lot from what I've been told).

One of Carlos' friends, Kirsten Ulve is having a gallery opening when we're there too...

Take that, hippies!

Just as I've always suspected, Echinacea is worthless. Read on...

Yo Japan!

I don't have any specific details yet but Carlos and I are planning a trip to Tokyo in early October. It's the ultimate drool destination for both of us so we're plenty stoked.

Everyday when I get home, I throw my purse down in my studio/office, boot up the G5 and casually glance at the numerous musical instuments and gear (ie., drum kit, guitars, amp, keyboards, various percussion, mics) that are sitting around collecting dust. In an effort not to let the dust collecting continue, I've decided to pick up my guitar again and (gasp) play it. The playing of the drums and such will probably follow so I just might (just might) have the motivation to record something decent before I turn 30.

New Comic

Please visit the Weekly section of the site for a new comic called, "It's All A Big Lie". As you can see, I'm not working with subtle titling this week.

My arm hurts. I'm going to bed now.

Willy Wonka is a germophobe

And so am I, to a certain extent. I don't wear purple rubber gloves during my waking hours though.

We went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last Friday night and I am soooo glad that Burton is back in top form for this one. (Everything except for the vapid Oompa Loompa songs, that is. These are mostly Elfman's fault. I knew about this before I went in so it wasn't much of a surprise.)

In true Burton fashion, the children cast for the 5 lucky golden ticket holders look incredibly strange and surreal. The art direction is total bliss and Jonny Depp out-performed my expectations. Go see this movie if you haven't already. Just beware the song moments. Make them your bathroom break/ popcorn run & refill.

2 down...

4 or so to go... My upper-arms got "zapped" by a laserbeam again yesterday in the second installment of my tattoo removal. I'm not feeling nearly as sore as last time so I think I'll be able to put a new comic up tonight. Yay for technology!

Hoot Your Trap Off

Chris Morris has done it again. If you can get your slimy little monkey hands on it (try eBay), I highly reccommend his new British series, Nathan Barley. (Yes, the link really is "trashbat.co.ck".)

This is the same guy who created the legendary Brass Eye and was banned from British TV for a while. Here's why.

I think Mr. Morgan wanted to be in this picture too (look behind us). Thanks to John Carrillo for the pic!

All the hype?

I've been listening to the much hyped Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album for the past few days but I'm really not hearing what everyone's talking about yet. Yes, it is a very good and solid record. Though unlike the Pitchfork review of it being the second coming of Christ's soundtrack, I find it to be just a good and solid record, nothing that breaks any new ground or has me quoting Hamlet. The singer has severe David Byrne overtones to his vocals and the music feels like an early Yo La Tengo recording. Don't get me wrong-- these are very good things to have going for them. I think I just need to spend some more time with this so I don't feel so disappointed by the build up. Hurry to Insound.com though if you want to buy one of what little copies of the second printing they still have.

On the other hand, I will unabashedly hype the band, Wolf Parade with everything I got in my tiny metal heart. Their new EP of 4 songs is such a tease! This recording (produced by Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock) has more balls than the entire English Rugby team. Please download it from iTunes and listen to what I'm talking about. Come on, it's only a $4 gamble. You'll thank me when their full length album comes out in September, sells out all over the place and you're the cool kid on your block who can say you had the EP like 3 months ago. Well you may not be cool but you can say that.

Back From Comic Con

Whoa, what a weekend. I need to sleep for about 3 days. This year was more fruitful than last year in just about every facet.

The definate highlight of this year was the King Kong Panel/ Tenacious D show that took place in hall H for about 6500 adoring nerds. On the panel (which had already started when we strolled in) sat the unannounced Jack Black, Naomi Watts and Adrian Brody. It was some pure unadulterated magic watching the nerds ask Jack Black questions while using the word "fuck" a lot, sexually harass Naomi and completely ignore Brody. Or even worse, call him "James Brody"- and that's just what some ignoramus did. Brilliant.

Needless to say, it was all pretty damn funny and the D put on an incredible set to separately promote their new movie.

I scored quite a bit of loot this year as well-- a set of (5) "Disaster" silkscreen prints from Jordan Crane,

(2) I.W.G 8'' figures/ set of "Human Bones" (The rhino figure was in a limited edition of 50)--

and lots more junk I don't want to bore ya'll with...

Kusai & Ben

Just finished the Kusai & Ben issue #1 mini comic book! Only made 20 copies for the Comic Con event so please let me know if you want me to set aside one. I'm not going to sell this batch but the next one will go on sale at Meltdown in LA.

Music Editing

I've spent the past few hours here at home editing the music for the Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! Comic Con promo piece. If you haven't seen the show already, I highly suggest checking it out. You can find it on one of the many Disney channels or just TiVo it or something. Or go to Comic Con and listen to Ciro, the creator talk about it on a panel. So there.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned that I love to edit music. Seriously, I do. Especially when it's for something cool and worthwhile!

A little side-tracked

Hmmm. What to post. 4/6th of my immediate family came to visit me in LA this past weekend. Suprisingly, nobody walked away bloody and crying. We all showed total love and respect for each other like a bunch of goddamn hippies. Seriously, it was weird. But I'm not complaining. Since they drove away this morning, they've stumbled upon a nice hotel in Vegas and are probably wondering why they're there in the first place considering none of them gamble. I guess slot machines count though.

We spent most of yesterday at the happiest place on earth but I find it to not be that adjective at all. America's too overweight (sorry, I mean morbidly obese) and overwrought with bratty ass kids anymore to thoroughly enjoy Disneyland. Needless to say, it was a total freakshow. It made me feel really good knowing that my family was the best looking (I didn't say best behaved) family there. Yeah, I'm an asshole like that. So what. Go read someone else's blog.

I've been a space cadet all day so I hope I'm able to complete a comic for ya'll tonight. With Comic Con being next weekend, I won't be able to update it again for over a week so the pressure of making this a good one is also making me procrastinate, bitches. This robot's mind is being really hard on itself. Will the mystery robot please step foward? Because I need a new brain!

Until next time, here's a photo of my dog playing "dead fox".

Reality Check

The scary thing about this photo is that it's not from the new zombie movie-- it's real.

NES Favorite

This morning, I woke up feeling the need to play Bubble Bobble. I have to see if that exists for Game Boy Advance because my original copy is buried in a box hidden away at my parents' place in western PA. And I dare not look for it when I go back for fear of the flesh eating spiders (that probably carry the rage virus) living along side my Bubble Bobble cartridge in dark harmony.

Creepy Mirror Mask Clip

Check this out. It's from the upcoming Neil Gaiman/ Henson Studios flick called "Mirror Mask". (Thanks Carlos) I don't know what to make of it yet- looks like a lot of goddamn green screen to me.

This Certainly Isn't Batman...

Wow, a really good indie film managed to find a release date this summer! I highly reccommend "Me And You And Everyone We Know". The soundtrack is equally as pleasing. Go here to watch the trailer and stream the soundtrack (by the same guy who did the music for "Donnie Darko").

Fireworks

The clear view of Glendale right out our front door made for a great stage to the many fireworks displays that took place last night. There had to at least be 15 or so different areas setting them off all at once. It sounded like all out warfare and I loved every minute of it. Thank you LA for harboring so many illegal fireworks for my viewing pleasure!

Comic Con!!! It's 9 days away. Until then, I'll be entertaining my family at the house this weekend. This is the first time everyone will experience the house in it's 85% finished stage. I see a trip to Disneyland in our future as well as the Arclight Cinemas for the opening night of "Fantastic Four" and my dad's favorite restaurant, The 101.
