New Comic

Father To A Sister Of Thought

I should start using Pavement song titles for all of my future blog posts. Stephen Malkmus, you're so damn clever.

I just realized that the new Golf MkV's are now out in Europe and that I am going to Europe next month. Yay! Instead of oggling them online and on the new Gran Turismo 4 game, I can see one up close. So yes, it may sound lame but in addition to seeing the sights of Rome, I will be making a special stop at a VW dealership there! I'm also hoping to catch a Roma game too- but I won't hold my breath on that one. I can see it now: Lauren goes to Italy and GEEEEEEKS OUT....

For the trip, I picked up a new iPod Photo 30G. It's remarkably liberating to have so much room for music now. The iPod Mini was great, don't get me wrong, but the new color screen was oh so tantalizing.

I really don't want to type the following because it breaks my heart in ways I cannot describe but Eric is going back to Philadelphia.

There's an exceptionally sad comic coming this evening. It's finished, I just haven't posted it. I'm going to take my shite mood and get back to work now.

Oh, the Oscars!

Boo. I can't believe I just watched that whole program. Yuck. Chris Rock was only marginally funny towards the beginning. The pizza we ordered was bad too. And I still have absolutely NO desire to see Million Dollar Baby, Ray or the Aviator. Wow, what am I doing in LA?

Getting Out Of Dodge...

I made the decision last night to go to Rome in March to meet both of my sisters for a week and a half. I need this so badly. It's been a while since I have travelled out of LA, let alone the country. I managed to find a decently (though not a bargain by any means) priced flight too.
So Erin, if you're reading this, SURPRISE!!! I'm coming after all!!

Shite Dreams

Last night was full of them. The most stressful one had to do with my car getting stolen from right in front of my house. It set off a barrage of other nighmare scenarios that ended with the piercing sound of my alarm clock. Fun. Sleep rules. I wish I wasn't at work. I want to draw a comic very badly right now. Sigh.

Frown

Tivo never taped the Man U/ Everton match and Man U lost to AC Milan. D'oh.
I want to get my own Tivo to record nothing but English football. The only thing the other Tivo seems to be good for is taping old Simpsons episodes and Chappelle's show reruns that we already have on tape.

Dr. Crist...

Congrats Caitlin on passing the law section of the pharmacy boards!! Now go have fun in Rome with Erin for a week! Ugh, if I didn't have a steady job, I'd so go with you.
At least I got football tonight.

Um, hello!

Grey is the new blue...

...sky, that is. I just found out that the rains are not scheduled to stop until the end of the week. Woo.

So tomorrow is Wednesday and you know what that means-- Man U Night at my house! Even better, I think it's going to be a double header: The Man U/ Everton match from last Saturday AND the Man U/ AC Milan Championship League match. I've been a good little girl and have not checked the scores from Saturday...

Other than that, work has been crazy. All of the new pilots are in need of temp underscore and main titles and that means tons of busy work for me. I'm taking the only spare second I've had yet today to type this post. I love it when there's music editing involved though. Not only do I take great pride in that stuff but I find it to be quite meditative. It allows me to block everything else out and focus purely on the wave formations and the beats. Good stuff.

New Comic

Please check the Weekly section.

Our poor old house is taking the beating of it's life as the rains continue to pummel Los Angeles. Yikes. More leaks have surfaced and we're taking turns getting drenched while unclogging drains outside. I'm used to rains like this from back home in soggy western Pennsylvania but experiencing it here just seems wrong. Instead of breaking off from some huge earthquake, California just might be washed away by a mudslide into the sea.

Oh yeah, and since I'm remembering it, please check out my good friend Kim's new website. I'll be adding hers and many others to my links section later this week.

So rain, huh?

Yuck.

Normally I'd be stoked but for some bizarre reason I'm, um... not.

A new and painfully sad comic is on its way. I have tomorrow off (thanks, "The Mouse"). That means I just might have more than one comic in the pipline for you, oh loyal reader. Why the long face, you might ask? Well, just read some goddamn Kusai comics. It's the only place I can really be (safely) honest about everything. Otherwise, I'd be deemed an asshole by most everyone I know. Maybe the rain is fitting after all.

My Wedding Present to you all

Speaking of men from the UK, I've been meaning to mention the Wedding Present's new album, "Take Fountain". It took only a few listens but now I'm hooked (thanks Eric). Hopefully you'll feel the same - test drive it on Amazon or if you have the luxury of an Amoeba record store in yer backyard, visit their listening stations. But then again, maybe you won't like it at all. I selfishly gotta admit, this album is truly a perfect fit for my mood as of late.

And that's another thing. I've been EXTREMELY wary of typing anything in this blog that is (what some may consider) too personal. It was brought to my attention by a friend of mine that he felt dirty reading my blog a few months ago because it was like reading my diary or something. After mulling over the obvious, I've been trying to keep it on the informational side though keeping my opinions around for the occasional snide comment. Now I'm torn. Not that it matters in the end anyway. Just know that a few things might eek their way into future posts that reflect stuff that you, the reader, are allowed to ignore. Heaven knows, I sure try to.

Manchester United

Thank goodness for Fox Soccer Channel. We all gathered round the glorified idiot box last night to watch Man U take Man City 2-0 (YAY!!!) in hopefully what will turn into a regular weekly football event at my house. Due to the NHL tragedy, I think it will catch on with forlorn hockey fans as well. We'll see.
Pieter, the following image is for you... cause we all know how much you looooove Ronaldo without his shirt and tape over his earrings.

I still can't get over the fact that this guy looks just like my sister's boyfriend. Weeeiiird.
Here they are in Prague. I cannot begin to say how jealous I am about the Prague thing.

Whoa!

Reported from Pitchfork:

Silver Jews Wrapping Up LP For July Release
Matt Amis reports:
David Berman, founder of the rotating super-group the Silver Jews, recently posted a detailed communiquĊ½ on Drag City's bulletin board entitled "all my strange is gonna be friendly," in which he spilled info on the band's new album-- currently titled Tanglewood Numbers-- and its ridiculous line-up of musicians.

The album-- which Berman says will be completed February 24 (and probably released in July)-- features, as previously reported, the return of Stephen Malkmus. But that's not all! According to Berman, joining in the fun are such notables as Will Oldham, Mike Fellows, Brian Kotzur, Bob Nastanovich, Bobby Bare Jr., Steve West, Duane Denison, Azita Youseffi, Pete Cummings, Tony Crow, Paz Lenchatain, and J.D. Wilkes. Whew.

Without going so far as to divulge an official tracklist, Berman posted the working song titles for Tanglewood Numbers. Which means that we will happily do the same (trust us, you don't want to try and find that shit on Drag City's site):

Sleeping Is the Only Love
There Is a Place
Punks in the Beerlight
How Can I Love You (If You Won't Lie Down?)
The Poor the Fair and the Good
Animal Shapes
I'm Getting Back (Into Getting Back Into Getting Back Into You)
Sometimes The Pony Gets Depressed
K-hole
The Farmer's Hotel
Brian's Song
Freezing in the Shadow of Your Knee
Region Ten

Regarding the rampant speculation that Tanglewood Numbers will be the Silver Jews' swan song, Berman wrote, "is it the last silver jews album? Impossible! As long as two of us walk the earth the band is still together. And, as always, thanks to you that give a damn about what we do."

Excuses excuses...

Sorry it's been more than a week since I last posted. I'll be starting the week off right by putting up another comic on Monday or Tuesday.
My friend Eric is now officially not a resident of the east coast anymore. He's here in California hopefully (selfishly) for good! Yay!

An Unfortunate "Boo"

Ladies and gentlemen, it's a sad day in animation. I had the rare opportunity to see an advance copy of Don Hertzfeldt's highly anticipated short film, "The Meaning Of Life" this evening. Well...(cough) it was really boring.
Now, I understand the whole "artist changing the direction of one's work to broaden the span of their career" but come on now! I want to say that I want my money back but that doesn't apply. However, wanting all the hopes I invested in the future of this otherwise brilliant animator does apply. So please, Don, I'd like them back. Cough it up, dude. Or at least until you can make me laugh so hard it hurts (repeatedly) and want to scream from the hilltops that you're the best at what you do again. Save your soul searching esoteric artsy bullshit for the student film genre where it belongs. Sorry this is so harsh- I'm just deeply disappointed and have had way too many Red Bulls today.

Change of plans

Ok, so I may have stretched the truth a bit when I typed about posting more than one comic this week... Something else came up that requires my complete attention. Hopefully the comic I posted last Monday will suffice until next week. Thanks for your understanding, good people of earth.

Geeking Out With THX 1138

So you know those rad cars that appear near the end of George Lucas' criminally overlooked film, THX 1138? Outside of that stark and sterile world watched over by Big Brother, they're known as 1967 Lola T70's. Below are some photos and links to resources that flaunt similar racers and prototypes from the past century. Feast your eyes!

New Mk V GTI UK TV Spots

Leave it to the Germans to conceive it and the Brits to air it- a break dancing Gene Kelly "Singin' In The Rain" TV commercial for the new (drool) Mk V version of the Volkswagen GTI.
